Imran Khan

Imran has over 15 years of research experience in pre-clinical and clinical research. His research interests include nutraceuticals, diabetes, cancer biology, and neurodegeneration. He has experience in collaborating with Glaxo-Smith Kline, Unilever, Water Corporation, and several startup companies.

Imran has held research positions at ECU, Curtin University, Telethon Kids Institute, Peter McCallum Cancer Centre, University of Melbourne, United Arab Emirates University and University of Nottingham.

Skills

  • Experimental design- pre-clinical in vitro and in vivo animal model development. Transgenic animal model development and characterisation.
  • Drug development- target identification, large drug screens, pre-clinical and clinical validation, drug pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics.
  • Animal and human ethics application and approval.
  • Structural Biology- NMR, CryoEM, crystallisation screens, single particle analysis and homology modelling.
  • Microbiology- characterisation of gut microbiome, soil, sewage, and freshwater samples.
  • Molecular Biology- PCRs, single cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, gene knockdown/knockout assays, recombinant protein design and expression-yeast, bacteria, mammalian, and insect cells.
  • HPLC based protein and peptide purification.
  • Mass spectrometry- assays development to identify drug and metabolites.
  • Bioinformatics- whole genome sequencing, exome sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, molecular dynamics, homology modelling.
