Multiphase flows and process industries

Abstract

An introductory chapter to the book Multiphase Flows for Process Industries: Fundamentals and Applications (Wiley-VCH, 2022). The chapter discusses the central role of multiphase flows in chemical and allied process industries, contrasting them with single-phase flows for which reliable computational models exist. It outlines the complexity of gas–liquid, gas–solid, and liquid–solid interactions, reviews the limitations of current experimental and computational approaches, and frames the structure of the book as a resource for researchers and practitioners seeking to understand and apply multiphase flow modelling across the process industries.
